ENROLMENT POLICY
Galilee Regional Catholic Primary School is co-educational and caters for children from Prep –Year 6.We believe that the parents are the first educators of their children and have the obligation and the right to ensure an adequate education for their children consistent with their rights and obligations and with their beliefs and values.
All children participate in Religious Education classes. Gospel values of love, truth, justice, peace making, forgiveness, respect for the dignity of each person and responsibility for the environment permeates each area of the curriculum.
Enrolment Information
- Children must turn 5 years of age before the 30th April in the year they are commencing school. Permission to grant an exemption is on the basis of a number of conditions which must be understood and accepted by the parents and carers. These conditions include:
- Permission from the Director of Catholic Education,
- Approval by the school given class sizes,
- Readiness of the child.
- A copy of the child's Birth and Baptism Certificates must be provided. This should be attached to your Enrolment Form.
- Non-Catholic families lodging an enrolment will need to include a personal letter clearly stating the reasons they are seeking enrolment in a Catholic school.
- At the time of lodging an enrolment application all new families will be required to pay a non-refundable enrolment fee of $100.00 per family to secure a place in the school.
- An immunization certificate must be provided for all children, prior to their commencement at school, this can be obtained from your local council.
- Individual interviews will be conducted for all new enrolment applicants after enrolments close. Times will be arranged by the school.
- A School Familiarization Program will be held in term 4 for all new Prep students.
- An Information Night for parents will also be held in Term 4.
General Policy Regarding Enrolments
The following points will be considered when accepting any enrolment:
Priority of Enrolment
- Children with siblings in the school.
- Catholic children who are residents of the South Melbourne, Port Melbourne and Middle Park Parishes.
- Catholic children who do not reside in the parish but belong to the parish community.
- Catholic children from other parishes (for pastoral reasons).
- Children from non-Catholic Eastern Churches who reside in the parish.
- Children from non-Catholic Eastern Churches who reside outside the parish.
- Other Christian children who reside in the parish.
- Other Christian children who reside outside the parish.
- Non-Christian children who reside in the parish.
- Non-Christian children who reside outside the parish.
A child with special needs will be considered for enrolment after an interview with the Principal and Student Well-Being Coordinator, and in conjunction with the parents and others considered appropriate in understanding the needs of the child. If it is thought that the school does not have the capacity or facilities to meet the needs of the child this will be communicated to the parents. If the school finds itself in a position of ‘unjustifiable hardship’ in providing for a child with special needs, extensive negotiations will be held with all parties including the CEOM before a decision on enrolment is reached.
General Process Regarding Enrolments
- Enrolments are advertised through the school newsletter, parish bulletin, the local kindergartens and childcare facilities.
- Enrolment applications for the following year open on the school’s first Open Day.
- New families will be interviewed by the Principal and existing families will be given the opportunity of an interview, the following week after applications close.
- Following interviews, first round offers of a place will be sent out by the end of the First Semester.
- Acceptance of offers must be returned by the commencement of Term 3.
- Families not successful with enrolment will be sent a letter indicating this and where relevant an offer to be placed on a waiting list, pending further enrolment vacancies.
