Physical Education

Galilee's Physical Education program is divided into two sections:

  1. Junior Grades at Galilee participate in Phys. Ed. sessions each week that aim to develop the 11 Fundamental Motor Skills necessary for future involvement in sport.
  2. Middle and Senior classes have the focus of Sport Education. Children are introduced and given the opportunity to participate in traditional (Football, Netball) and non traditional sports (European Handball).

The Physical Education Program is complemented by inter-school sports competitions for grades 3-6.

Art

Using as our starting point the knowledge that all the children are naturally creative, our Visual Arts program is designed to allow children to learn how to perceive more thoughtfully, try new things, grow as human beings and discover truths about themselves and their world.

Throughout their schooling at Galilee children learn techniques of composition, design and construction, and engage in a wide variety of activities in areas such as textiles modelling and technology. Works of art completed in these classes are exhibited at our annual art exhibition, whilst others are entered into the Catholic Schools Visual Arts Exhibition which is held in Catholic Education Week.

Italian

At Galilee, Italian is taught once a week to all levels. The ability to use a language other than English and move between cultures is important for full participation in the modern world. Learning Italian at Galilee School offers the students the opportunity to:

  • Gain direct insights into another culture.
  • Use the language to communicate with other Italian speakers.
  • Understand how language operates .
  • Consider their own cultures and compare it with the culture of another country.

At Galilee Primary School this is achieved through programs such as 'In Compagnia', 'Arcobaleno', 'Avanti', and 'Ciao ltalia'.

Library

Our library is the result of the merging of several local school libraries. As a consequence we have a good sized collection available for use by our students. We have a large picture book collection and we are steadily building up the number of new novels, reference books and non-fiction in our holdings. We have two computers set aside for use by our students, with access to the library catalogue, the Internet, and CD-Rom databases. Library classes are held once a week.
